The National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum

The National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum, 120 W. 9th St., is housed in a Victorian school built during the 19th-century silver boom. It offers 17 exhibit rooms portraying the history of mining from the Bronze Age through the present.

Visitors may walk through a replicated underground hard rock mine complete with ore cars and drills. The Gold Rush Room exhibits gold samples and mining artifacts. Minerals from around the world are presented in the Henneback Wing.

Murals, dioramas and sculptures highlight historic mining developments. The Hall of Fame contains plaques honoring individuals who made significant contributions to the industry.

Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.

$12; $10 (ages 65+ and students and military with ID); free (ages 0-5).
Daily 9-4:45, May-Oct.; Tues.-Sun. 9-5, rest of year. Last ticket sold 30 minutes before closing. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
