Lighthouse Point Park is off I-95 exit 50 (Woodward Ave.) then s. on Townsend Ave. to the end of Lighthouse Rd., following the green Lighthouse Park signs. The 90-foot-tall New Haven Harbor Lighthouse was built in 1840 and used 1845-77. The lighthouse is not open to the public, but boating, fishing and picnicking are permitted on the grounds; there also is a carousel. Ranger-led programs focus on marine history and ecology.

Park open daily 7 a.m.-dusk, Apr. 1-Nov. 1. Carousel Sat.-Sun. and holidays noon-4, Memorial Day weekend-Labor Day.
