West Rock Ridge State Park is off Merritt Pkwy. exit 60, s. on Dixwell Ave., w. on Benham St., s. on Main St., then s. to the park entrance, 1134 Wintergreen Ave. The park, a ridge rising 627 feet high and encompassing more than 1,500 acres, offers fishing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, picnicking and scenic views. The park drive is open seasonally; parking is available at the West Rock Nature Center and at Lake Wintergreen. Of interest is Judges' Cave, named for the Colonial judges who hid from the wrath of British troops after they condemned Charles I to death.
