Mattatuck Museum is at 144 W. Main St., facing the Green. Housed in a former Masonic temple, the museum displays decorative arts, 18th- to 21st-century landscape and portrait paintings and sculpture by American artists. Local history exhibits include Coming Home: Building Community in a Changing World. The museum exhibits American art, including works by Alexander Calder, Frederic Church, George Inness and J. Alden Weir. A portion of a collection of 20,000 rare buttons is displayed on the third floor in The Waterbury Button Museum.
