Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens

Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens is w. of I-295 (Kenilworth Ave.) at 1500 Anacostia Dr. N.E., between Quarles and Douglas sts. This stretch of marshland along the Anacostia River provides good bird-watching opportunities. Water lilies, lotuses, water hyacinths and other aquatic plants bloom from May through September; the best flower viewing is before 11 a.m. Walking trails make the “gardens” accessible. A boardwalk leads to a wetlands area, and a river trail offers views of the Anacostia.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
