Biggs Museum of American Art is w. on Court St., then n. to jct. of Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. and Federal St. The museum contains Sewell C. Biggs' personal art and antiques collection, which was in the making for more than half a century. It is in the 1858 former Kent County government building, one of the state's first fireproof buildings.

Works spanning nearly 300 years survey major periods in American art. Exhibits feature the paintings of regional artists and celebrated masters: Albert Bierstadt, William Merritt Chase, Childe Hassam, George Inness, Charles Willson Peale, Frank Schoonover and Gilbert Stuart. The collection also includes pastels, drawings, modern art and sculpture.

Biggs' assemblage of fine furniture and silver represents the work of some of the best Delaware and Philadelphia craftsmen of the Colonial and Federal periods.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
