Congressional Cemetery

Congressional Cemetery is at 1801 E St. S.E. A number of famous figures are buried here, including celebrated photographer Mathew Brady; Elbridge Gerry, the nation's fifth vice president; J. Edgar Hoover, first director of the FBI; composer John Philip Sousa; and numerous members of Congress. One-hour docent-led tours are offered, and a brochure outlining a self-guiding walking tour is available at the office. Special events take place throughout the year.

Note: Exercise caution when moving about, as the ground contains depressions, footstones and markers that may cause one to trip.
