National Key Deer Refuge, at mile marker 30.3 on US 1, is a designated refuge for the endangered diminutive deer. It encompasses approximately 9,200 acres. Blue Hole, 1.5 miles north of Key Deer and Watson boulevards, is a former quarry that attracts such wildlife as alligators and turtles. Just north of Blue Hole, two self-guiding nature trails begin off Key Deer Boulevard. Early morning and evening hours are the best times to view the deer. The visitor center features exhibits about the refuge and provides brochures detailing wildlife habitats.

The visitor center is located at 30587 Overseas Hwy. (US 1).
