AAA Editor Notes
The Barnacle Historic State Park is at 3485 Main Hwy. Commodore Ralph Middleton Munroe, an area pioneer, naturalist, photographer and noted designer of shallow-draft sailing yachts, built a one-story bungalow on Biscayne Bay in 1891 and later enlarged it by raising the rooms to accommodate a new first floor underneath. With furnishings and photographs that belonged to Munroe, the house offers a glimpse of old Florida. Part of the grounds encompass a tropical hardwood hammock. A boat house also is on the site. Special events and educational programs are held throughout the year.

Guided tours are available. Pet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
