In the 1950s the site was home to an amusement park called Bongoland which featured concrete dinosaurs. Today, a life-size statue of a prehistoric ground sloth and four dinosaur statues are along the garden trails. Housed in an 1850s building, The Gardeners Library contains over 200 books about plants. Guided tours of the gardens are available by appointment.
