Congregation Mickve Israel is in the historic district on Monterey Sq. on Bull St. (at Gordon and Wayne sts.). This 1876 neo-Gothic-style synagogue contains an archival museum displaying the Torah that the founders of the congregation brought to Savannah from England in 1733. Other items of interest are letters from George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and several other presidents. A tour of the temple includes an audio tour followed by a docent-led tour.
