AAA Editor Notes
The Georgia Capitol, 206 Washington St. between Mitchell St. and Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. (MARTA: Georgia State station), was patterned after the national Capitol. Gold leaf mined in northern Georgia covers the exterior dome. Inside, the Georgia Capitol Museum contains exhibits about the building's architecture, history and purpose; displays include rocks, minerals, Native American artifacts and colorful dioramas. The General Assembly is in session from early January to March.

Guided tours are available by appointment (requires a minimum of 10 participants). Note: Visitors over age 17 must have a photo ID to enter the capitol.
