Mercer Williams House Museum is at 429 Bull St. Antiques dealer, preservation expert and social gadfly Jim Williams restored this 1860 mansion built for Gen. Hugh W. Mercer, great-grandfather of singer and songwriter Johnny Mercer. Events central to the book “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” took place in the house. Guides provide tours of the garden and first floor while offering insight about the architecture, interior furnishings and Williams' life. Highlights include a spiral stairway below a stained-glass dome and the original English ceramic tile in the 60-foot entryway. Tours depart from the carriage house gift shop.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
