AAA Editor Notes
Holoholokū Heiau, on SR 580 w. of jct. SR 56, is a temple restored by Kaua‘i Historical Society and Bishop Museum in Honolulu. The site is said to be the oldest heiau on the island not built by the Menehune. It consists of a semicircle of piled rocks, which looks like a low wall. Outside the enclosure are Royal Birthstones, which women of royal blood were required to reach before giving birth, in order to ensure the child’s royal status. Kaumuali‘i, the last king of Kaua‘i, was born at Holoholokū.

Note: Heiau are culturally significant and should be treated with respect.
