State Historical Museum of Iowa is at 600 E. Locust St. Reflecting the state's geological and natural development, civic and military background and Native American culture, exhibits allow visitors to experience Iowa's history through sight, sound and touch. Displayed are aircraft, early farm machinery, a Conestoga wagon, a collection of battle flags, a Civil War exhibit and the silver service from the battleship USS Iowa. The Hollywood in the Heartland exhibit traces Iowa's role in the film industry. Visitors also can research history and genealogy in the State Historical Society Research Center.
