Evanston History Center at the Charles Gates Dawes House, 225 Greenwood St., is in a historic district of restored Victorian homes and stately mansions. Active in international and domestic affairs, Nobel laureate Gen. Charles Gates Dawes served as vice president under Calvin Coolidge. Memorabilia and artifacts pertaining to his World War I service and public life are displayed. The restored 1894 home is furnished with original family pieces. Rotating exhibits and events are featured. The Frank B. Foster Research Room and Archives also is available.

Note: Because the Charles Gates Dawes House is not air-conditioned, the house will close if outdoor temperatures exceed 90 F.

Guided tours are available.
