Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center, 1 mi. e. on SR 16, is adjacent to the Lake Shelbyville Dam and overlooks Lake Shelbyville. This green-engineered building houses aquariums and terrariums with live snakes, fish and turtles and an exhibit hall. Displays explore the dam's construction and the area's early inhabitants, while interactive exhibits allow visitors to meet Bobber the Water Safety Dog, try on a life jacket or crawl through a log. A Butterfly House and Garden, an outdoor classroom and two observation decks also are available. The 7-mile multi-purpose General Dacey Trail passes by the visitor center.
