Rock Springs Nature Center is 3 mi. s.w. on SR 48 to Rock Springs Rd., then 1 mi. w. to Brozio Ln. at 3939 Nearing Ln. This 1,343-acre conservation area features 6.5 miles of hiking trails and a 2.2-mile paved bicycle path. The nature center houses the Macon County Ecocenter—an interactive museum—along with a wildlife observation window, aquariums, live animals, and rotating nature exhibits and art gallery displays. The center’s wide range of terrain includes forest, wetlands and prairie. The Sangamon River runs through the conservation area and several small ponds dot the landscape.
The Homestead Prairie Farm, a restored living-history site representing 1860s rural Illinois, also is available. Living history programs are held at the Homestead Prairie Farm. Interpretive hikes and cultural programs are held on weekends.
