Pierre Menard Home State Historic Site is 10 mi. n. off SR 3 at Fort Kaskaskia State Historic Site at the foot of the hill where the fort once stood. Pierre Menard was the presiding officer of the territorial legislature and became the first lieutenant governor of Illinois in 1818. Built in 1802, his French Colonial-style home contains some of the original furnishings. The house also has a small museum. Behind the home is an original smokehouse and herb garden.
