Indiana University is entered by the main gate at Kirkwood and Indiana aves. One of the oldest major state universities west of the Allegheny Mountains, Indiana University began operation in 1820. Of particular interest on the beautiful 1,928-acre campus are the Thomas Hart Benton murals in the University Theatre, Woodburn Hall and the auditorium.
