Barton County Historical Society Museum and Village, at 85 S. US 281 just s. of the Arkansas River Bridge, is at the crossroads of the Central Flyway and the historic Santa Fe Trail. Located on the Wetlands & Wildlife National Scenic Byway, the museum is the interpretative center for the Santa Fe National Historic Trail and comprises 12 rescued and restored buildings, including a schoolhouse, church, stone pioneer house, 1950s Lustron all metal home, depot, post office, blacksmith shop and four barns. The museum also has collections of dolls, vintage wedding gowns, military uniforms, unusual farm implements and antique household items. Rotating displays tell the stories of Cheyenne Bottoms, Fort Zarah, Great Bend Army Air Field and such notables as Nobel Laureate Jack Kilby.
