Arabia Steamboat Museum is at 400 Grand Blvd. in the River Market area. The Arabia sank in the Missouri River in 1856 with a 200-ton cargo. This museum displays a vast collection of frontier supplies and personal belongings recovered from the steamboat in 1989, including clothing and shoes, medicines, guns, bottled fruits and vegetables, jewelry and perfume. The 6-ton stern and a paddlewheel are preserved with a full-size reproduction of the main deck. Guided tours include a theater presentation describing the excavation effort, and visitors may view a working preservation lab.
