The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is 4.5 mi. s. on US 56 at 45th and Oak sts. The museum's permanent collection of more than 41,000 art objects is one of the country's finest. Highlights include Asian, American and European paintings; modern sculpture; ancient Egyptian, Etruscan, Greek and Roman pieces; and an extensive collection of English ceramics. Works by modern artists are featured in the 22-acre Kansas City Sculpture Park, notably a large collection of monumental bronzes by English sculptor Henry Moore.

The Bloch Building contains the museum's collection of African and contemporary art, a reference library and a sculpture court. The impressive Hallmark Photography Collection features works from the origins of photography to the present; practically every key American photographer is represented. An Egyptian gallery features tomb discoveries, including the inner coffin of a 2,300-year-old noblewoman. A reflecting pool highlights the building's north entrance.
