Jack Jouett House Historic Site, 255 Craig’s Creek Rd., is the 1797 home of Captain Jack Jouett who, on June 3-4, 1781, rode for 40 miles on horseback from Louisa, Va., to Charlottesville, Va., to warn state legislators and Governor Thomas Jefferson of an impending British invasion.

Docents provide tours of the three-bedroom Federal-style brick cottage, which also contains a formal parlor and dining room. The homestead also includes a 1780s frontier stone cabin that was used by the Jouetts as a kitchen.
