AAA Editor Notes
Baxter Springs Heritage Center and Museum is at 740 East Ave. The two-story facility's interpretive exhibits relate local history from the late 19th century and World Wars I and II as well as Native American history. Dioramas showcase books, clothing, letters, posters and other artifacts. An 1870s street display offers a blacksmith shop, and another interprets life in the 1930s and features a barber shop and beauty salon as well as dentist and optometrist offices.

Other displays interpret the significance of Route 66 and local mining history; many crystals, rocks and stones discovered in nearby mines are displayed in the Tri-State Mining Gallery.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
