Kirwin National Wildlife Refuge visitor center, 4 mi. w. on SR 9, then 1 mi. s. to 702 E. Xavier Rd., offers exhibits about area wildlife and habitats. The refuge covers 10,778 acres surrounding Kirwin Reservoir and provides a habitat for various species of migratory waterfowl and grassland nesting birds. The 10-acre Prairie Dog Town allows visitors to view these animals from nature trails. Fishing, bird-watching and seasonal hunting are offered. Regulation information is available at refuge headquarters.
