Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop & Farm Historic Site is w. of jct. I-35 and SR 150, at 1200 Kansas City Rd. In 1857 Indiana farmer J.B. Mahaffie arrived in Olathe with his wife and five children to purchase land for farming; by 1865 he reputedly had the largest farm and livestock herd in Olathe township. From 1865 to 1869 Mahaffie's farm was used as a stagecoach stop, and the basement of the house served as a dining room for travelers. Visitors can see the wood peg barn, stone icehouse and house that Mahaffie built as well as interact with costumed interpreters depicting life in the 1860s. The Heritage Center is a visitor center housing a small museum with a timeline and a Mahaffie family biography. Available activities vary by season; phone ahead.
