National Underground Railroad Museum, 38 W. 4th St., is in the Bierbower House, a mid-19th-century “safe house” where runaway slaves were concealed. Maysville was on one of the main escape routes used by fugitive slaves as they headed north to freedom. The museum features historical artifacts, records and documents depicting life on the Underground Railroad. Of note is “Sampson,” an original Parker Tobacco Press.
