White Hall State Historic Site is off I-75 exit 95, w. .25 mi. on SR 627 to White Hall State Shrine Rd., then following signs for 2 mi. An imposing 44-room estate house in two architectural styles, White Hall was the home of emancipationist Cassius Marcellus Clay. The site, which is near the Kentucky River, covers 13 acres.

The first section, Clermont, was built by Clay’s father in 1798 in a Georgian design. During the 1860s Cassius Clay annexed an Italianate front and side addition to the house, more than doubling the home’s size. White Hall was the first house in the area to have central heating and indoor plumbing. Guides conduct 1-hour tours of the home.

Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
