San Francisco Plantation is 3.25 mi. w. at 2646 River Rd. (SR 44). The 1856 house is one of the finest examples of Steamboat Gothic architecture in southern Louisiana. Authentically restored, the galleried house features five hand-painted mural ceilings, period antiques and vivid colors. An 1830s slave cabin and 1840s schoolhouse are shaded by 300-year-old live oaks. Tours are led by storytelling guides in period costume.
