Nichols House Museum, 55 Mount Vernon St., is a Federal-style house in the heart of Beacon Hill that was the home of Rose Standish Nichols, a prominent Bostonian who was an author, a suffragist and a landscape designer.

The museum preserves the Nichols' 16th- through 19th-century furnishings and presents the typical domestic lifestyle of the Boston Brahmins, a class of New Englanders claiming to be descendants of the founders of the city.

Guided tours are available.
