Paul S. Russell, MD Museum of Medical History and Innovation

AAA Editor Notes
Paul S. Russell, MD Museum of Medical History and Innovation is at 2 North Grove St. at the entrance to the Massachusetts General Hospital campus. Two levels of interactive exhibits showcase 3 centuries of research and patient care at Massachusetts General Hospital, one of the oldest and most respected hospitals in the nation. Named in honor of a longtime Mass General physician, the facility also features temporary exhibits and a rooftop garden.

A small collection of artifacts is displayed at the historic Ether Dome, in the Bulfinch Building at 55 Fruit St. Between 1821 and 1868, more than 8,000 operations, including a landmark public demonstration in which inhaled ether was first successfully used as a surgical anesthetic, were performed at the surgical amphitheater.

Guided tours are available.
