The Atwood House Museum, .7 mi. s. at 347 Stage Harbor Rd., was built about 1752 for Joseph C. Atwood, a sea captain, and remained in the Atwood family for nearly 175 years. Fully restored, the two-story house is furnished in several periods. Nine added galleries contain such historical items as portraits and biographies of sea captains, maritime paintings, ship models, antique tools, and murals depicting local residents of the early 20th century.
