Brooks Free Library, 739 Main St., was established in 1880. It contains a collection of figurines by renowned sculptor John Rogers. Born in Salem in 1829, the artist often portrayed everyday urban and rural people in his works. The popular, mass-produced cast plaster pieces known as “Rogers Groups” were sold in the United States and abroad at affordable prices during the late 1800s.
