Old Gaol, 15 Vestal St., is a Nantucket Historical Association historic site. It was built in the early 1800s as a replacement penal facility for Nantucket's aging late 17th-century jail. Costing $2,090, this wooden structure boasted exceptional reinforcements for the time, including iron bolts that ran the length of the walls and iron-reinforced doors.
