New Bedford Whaling Museum is at 18 Johnny Cake Hill, within New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park. It is one of the largest museums devoted to the history of whales and whaling. The collection includes a changing exhibit gallery and interactive exhibits as well as a fully equipped whaleboat, a humpback whale and rare blue whale skeletons. The new Wattles Jacobs Education Center features kid-friendly interactive exhibits, a decorative arts gallery and a research library.

The park's 22-minute orientation film, “The City That Lit the World,” is shown daily in the museum's theater. Visitors also can board a fully rigged, 89-foot, half-scale replica of the whaling bark Lagoda.

Guided tours are available.
