Hancock Shaker Village is 4.2 mi. w. on US 20 (W. Housatonic St.) to jct. US 41. The 750-acre restored Shaker village includes 20 buildings with original Shaker furniture and artifacts, a working farm, and an heirloom herb and vegetable garden. A visitor center features changing exhibitions about Shaker life. The Shakers, dedicated to simplicity, celibacy and equality, founded the village in the late 1700s and lived here until 1960.

Visitors can explore the gardens, the 1830 Brick Dwelling, the 1826 Round Stone Barn, and a laundry and machine shop and many other historic structures on a self-guiding tour. Hands-on activities and daily tours are offered. Staff demonstrate Shaker woodworking, weaving, oval box making and other 19th-century crafts.

Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours, 30 minutes minimum.
