FortWhyte Alive is at 1961 McCreary Rd. Visitors can immerse themselves in the wilderness without even leaving the city at this urban nature oasis where a bison herd, deer, foxes, prairie dogs, waterfowl and songbirds can be seen. The 259-hectare (640-acre) protected green space includes 7 kilometres (4.35 mi.) of mulched trails plus floating boardwalks over marshland, bird-feeding stations in a forest, a herd of bison visible from a viewing mound, a tree house, teepees, a sod house and an interpretive center with a taxidermy touch museum and an aquarium.
Seasonal gear rentals are available and include binoculars, cruiser bikes, fishing equipment, wagons, family adventure bags, walking poles, canoes and snowshoes.
Picnicking is permitted. Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour, 45 minutes minimum.
