The Baltimore Museum of Art is 3 mi. n. of the Inner Harbor at 10 Art Museum Dr., at jct. N. Charles and 31st sts. Designed by John Russell Pope, architect of the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., the museum houses a permanent collection of more than 90,000 objects, ranging from ancient mosaics to contemporary art.

Visitors can see furniture, decorative arts, photography, paintings, miniature and period rooms; art from Africa, the Americas and Oceania; Chinese ceramics; and nine galleries devoted to European old masters. The Joseph Education Center offers rotating exhibits. Two sculpture gardens contain 20th-century works by artists from Rodin to Nevelson.

The Cone Collection includes paintings and sculptures by Pablo Picasso, Vincent van Gogh and other modern artists and reputedly has the world's largest Henri Matisse collection. The Contemporary Wing houses a large collection of Andy Warhol paintings. Programs, events and special exhibitions are held throughout the year.
