Washington Monument, in Mount Vernon Sq. at 699 N. Charles St., is dedicated to the nation's first president. A 227-step spiral stairway leads to the top of the monument where four observation windows provide a panorama of the city. A 30-ton statue of George Washington sits atop the monument. The base of the monument houses interactive exhibits, including a virtual tour, a historic timeline, videos about the monument's restoration and a live feed from the balcony.
No elevators are available. Visitors can climb the stairs of the monument by advance reservation; a limited number of same-day tickets may be available. Special events, movies and performances are held on the grounds. A guided walking tour from Mount Vernon Place to the Inner Harbor and one of Mount Vernon Place that includes a climb to the top of the monument are offered by reservation.
