Manitoba Museum, 190 Rupert Ave. at jct. Main St., illustrates the relationship of people and their environment in Manitoba's history through nine permanent galleries. Watch out for the stampede of bison in the Welcome Gallery where dioramas portray the interrelationship of humans and the natural environment. The Earth History Gallery displays fossils; the Arctic/Sub-Arctic Gallery explores Inuit culture and northern Manitoba; and the Boreal Forest Gallery features a diorama of a granite cliff, waterfall, marsh, a Cree family, and wildlife, including moose. A bat cave, snake pit and a Ukrainian rye farm can be seen at the Parklands Gallery.

In the Nonsuch Gallery visitors can see a life-sized replica of the ketch Nonsuch whose 1668 voyage to Hudson Bay opened western Canada to commerce and European settlement. The Hudson's Bay Company Museum Collection Gallery highlights fur trading and early exploration. A tipi and a log house are part of the Prairies Gallery, while the Winnipeg Gallery presents the history of the province's capital.

The museum also houses a planetarium and science gallery.
