Edgar Allan Poe House & Museum, 203 N. Amity St., is a small brick house where Poe lived with his aunt (Maria Clemm), his grandmother, and two cousins (Maria's son, Henry, and her daughter, Virginia, whom Edgar eventually married) for nearly 3 years until 1835 when he moved to Richmond, Va. The house is unfurnished but features exhibits about Poe's ties to Baltimore. You can also see some items that belonged to him, including a chair and portable writing desk, as well as possessions from the Allans, his foster family in Richmond. You can walk through the house on your own, but docents are on-site and will provide as much (or as little) additional information as you'd like.

Participants are invited to read their favorite Poe poem during Poe & Poets sessions. Other special events also are offered.

Note: This house is located in a challenged community, so be aware of your surroundings. The old house has narrow, steep, winding stairways and there are no restroom facilities. Photography for personal use is permitted.
