AAA Inspector Notes
This property is atop a knoll within what was once Fort McKinley. Built during the Spanish-American War, it remained a military base through World War II. Today the main barracks is a luxury hotel. The guest rooms and suites are beautifully designed and have fine linens and furnishings; many have a gas fireplace for added ambience. Access to this island hotel is through Casco Bay Lines (disembark at the Diamond Cove stop) in Portland or Fogg’s Water Taxi. This hotel typically operates between Memorial Day Weekend through Columbus Day Weekend. Guests may request a "taxi" golf cart shuttle or borrow one of the guest bicycles. Not evaluated. Facilities, services, and décor characterize a mid-scale property.
