Belle Isle Park is just s. over the MacArthur Bridge at jct. E. Jefferson Ave. This island in the Detroit River features 5 miles of scenic shoreline and offers multiple recreational opportunities. There are children's playgrounds and a giant slide. The white marble Scott Memorial Fountain is a highlight.

The Dossin Great Lakes Museum profiles local maritime history and includes a collection of model ships as well as the reconstructed pilot house from the S.S. William Clay Ford. The Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory displays cacti, ferns, orchids and palms. The Belle Isle Aquarium was the first public aquarium to open in the United States; more than 1,000 fish and a collection of Belle Isle memorabilia can be seen. The Belle Isle Nature Center features Michigan flora and fauna; various amphibians and reptiles are included, and deer reside on the grounds.

Note: Visiting the island after dark is not recommended. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum for the museum.
