The Zekelman Holocaust Center, 28123 Orchard Lake Rd., presents a historical journey beginning with European Jewish history, continuing through the rise of Nazism and the murder of millions of victims and then to Adolf Hitler's ultimate defeat. The center’s stark exterior recalls the bleakness of Nazi concentration camps, but inside, powerful exhibits showcase Holocaust survivors and the courage of ordinary people who risked their lives in order to save a Jewish stranger. Exhibits feature video presentations, oral accounts, photographs and dioramas. Special exhibits include a Holocaust boxcar and a sapling from the chestnut tree that Anne Frank could see from her hiding place. Temporary exhibits also are offered. A research library dedicated to the study of the Holocaust and Jewish history, culture and genealogy is available.

The museum sends a message of hope and a call to choose responsibility over hatred and indifference. An eternal flame memorializes the lives lost.

Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
