Westwood Hills Nature Center

Westwood Hills Nature Center is at 8300 W. Franklin Ave.; from the US 169 Cedar Lake Rd. exit, proceed 1.5 mi. e. to Texas Ave. S., then just n. to Franklin Ave., then .8 mi. w. A peaceful, 160-acre retreat in the middle of the city, this family-oriented nature center has walking and hiking trails, including a wheelchair- and stroller-accessible paved trail, that traverse wooded areas, marshes and restored prairie land. Resident wildlife includes deer, foxes, owls and wild turkeys. A honey-making demonstration at an observation apiary is one of the many naturalist-led programs. The center also offers interactive, seasonally based activities for kids.

Fishing poles, canoes and snowshoes can be rented.

Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
