Winterville Mounds is 5 mi. n of Greenville at 2415 SR 1N. The site features the remnants of a pre-Columbian Native American city of the late-Mississippian Period (1200-1600 AD). The 42-acre park includes 12 mounds, two plazas and other earthworks. The museum contains artifacts, jewelry, pottery, utensils and art created by the native people. Special programs related to archeology, history and Native American culture are offered at the National Historic Landmark.
