Veterans Memorial Museum

Veterans Memorial Museum is 1 mi. w. of US 65 at 1250 W. SR 76 Country Blvd. The veterans of American wars and military conflicts of the 20th century are honored at this museum, which has collections of uniforms and art as well as artifact exhibits. The focal point is a 70-foot-long bronze sculpture by museum founder and owner Fred Hoppe, depicting 50 soldiers storming a beach. Each life-size figure represents a U.S. state and is modeled after an actual combat veteran, including Hoppe's father. The names of more than 400,000 Americans killed in World War II are listed on the museum walls. Similar rolls are dedicated to casualties in Korea, Vietnam and the Persian Gulf.
