AAA Editor Notes
Indian Mounds Regional Park is at 10 Mounds Blvd., e. of the downtown business district overlooking the Mississippi River. The mounds are believed to have been constructed as a chieftain burial place more than 2,000 years ago. At least 16 burial mounds originally sat on a high bluff, and many more were added by later cultures over the centuries. Among the interesting discoveries made during the mound excavations was a death mask—a skull covered with red clay meant to evoke an image similar to the living person's face.

Picnicking is permitted.
