AAA Editor Notes
First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site is at 200-216 S. Main St. on the riverfront. These adjoining Federal-style brick buildings were the seat of government 1821-26. The first state General Assembly met upstairs while the building's owners lived and operated a general store on the first floor. Gov. Alexander McNair's office and a committee room were off the legislative chambers. Several rooms in the 1820 complex have been restored and decorated with period furnishings. Behind the building, overlooking the riverfront, gardens are laid out in period style. An interpretive center offers exhibits and a slide show.

Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
